Hubba Bubba Glop Bubble Gum

A couple of days ago I saw some new Hubba Bubba gum at my local Walmart store near where I live. Hubba Bubba Glop Bubble Gum and it came in a new plastic case which I thought was interesting. I have had all kinds of Hubba Bubba gum in the past and never seen it packaged like this before. The flavor was my favorite too, strawberry, and Hubba Bubba called it strawberry gush.

So I picked one up and after I got hope opened up the plastic container and inside was a large oval shaped pieces of gum, five of them. Excited to try one, I popped it in my mouth and on my first bite, a gush or strawberry flavored liquid filled my mouth. It was good, the strawberry flavor was strong and I loved it.

I had thought I found my best favorite gum ever, but all things fade. After only about 5 minutes of chewing, the gum lost all taste. So I was pretty disappointed after that, but the initial taste of strawberry was so awesome! It just does not last long enough, so I have to keep popping more gum for another gush of strawberry.

Kids will probably love this gum for the instant sweet strawberry rush, but for me as an adult, it just does not have enough staying power to keep me interested in chewing past five minutes. I will probably buy another pack next time I see it in the store even though it does not last, I love that strawberry taste!

Google Chrome - Shine On!

Google Chrome has some nice new features to take a look at. Since I work with computers on a daily basis as my full time job, I often use the Windows Task manager to end those pesky programs that lock up or to see how much memory certain processes are taking up among other things.

Google Chrome has something very similar to the Windows Task Manager, simply called Task Manager in Chrome.

Chrome’s Task Manager will you how much memory and CPU usage each and every tab and plug-in is currently using. And for a geek like me, they have a link called “Stats for nerds” on the bottom of the Task Manager. This opens up a page with a full view of the memory and CPU usage for each of the process in the browser.

One of the neat geeky things I like about Google Chrome is that it makes each of its tabs run in separate processes in windows. This helps keep the whole browser from crashing and you can use the Windows Task Manager to end one of the individual tabs if they ever lock up on you. When a Internet Explorer page locks up on me, it normally makes all my browsing windows crash, not just one tap. So I am pumped about Google Chrome for this feature.

You can get to the Task Manager by simple right clicking on one of the tabs to bring up the menu, and then left click on Task manager.

Spotlight: IDrive.com - Online Backup

Are your files backed up?

Have you ever concerned about losing important computer files because your computer crashed and burned? Those pictures that you just can’t replace if you ever lost them or maybe your scanned tax documents that you need to hang on to. Being the Geek that I am, I make semi-regular backups of all my family photos to DVD’s just in case my computer does take a dive. I should do it more often, but hey, I’m busy with life.

I keep some files that I use often on a nice little memory stick that I usually keep on me. I do forget it sometimes and it is usually when I really need it. So I started to look for another option for me to backup important documents and have access to them anywhere I go.

Keeping in mind that I like free stuff, I found an online backup solution that sounded like it would do exactly what I need. IDrive.com offers 2 GB of online data backup for free. That 2 GB of data would be perfect for backing some of my important files.

I found some other companies out there that did the same type of service, but the ones I saw did not allow you to restore your files, only back them up for you until you upgrade to a paid account. But IDrive lets you do it all, backup, restore, scheduled backups, and you can even set IDrive to do continuous backups.

I downloaded and installed the small IDrive client to my computer and now I have a few small folders that I have being automatically backed up by IDrive. I did a quick test to restore a single file and it worked just great.

This could also be a good option for some companies to ensure their company data is backed up off site at a secure location.

Test your Internet Speed

Starting back in early 2000, having Internet in at home has become more and more popular as speeds get faster and better plans based upon your budget. Many people pay anywhere from $25 per month to $100 per month for their Internet connection.

But how do you know if your Internet speed is what you are getting paid for. Maybe you are paying for a 1MB DSL or cable download speed, but are you truly getting the speed you are paying for?

You can buy or download different programs to accomplish this task, or you can test your Internet speed for free online. I prefer to test my Internet speed occasionally just to make sure that my ISP is giving me what I am paying my hard earned money for.

I normally just use a free online speed test at www.speedtest.net to test out my own Internet speed that I am getting from my ISP.

Give it a try and see if you are getting what you paid for.

Spotlight: Digsby

Since I have several different email and Instant Message (IM) accounts with Yahoo, MSN, and Google, I had to keep several different IM clients running so I can keep in touch with my friends and family. Sometimes that became a pain in my backside to have them all running at once using up memory and resources on my computer.

So I did some searches online and I came across something called Digsby. Digsby claimed to be a multiprotocol IM client that would let me chat with my friends and family on MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber. After reading more about it on their website Digsby offers even more that just a multiprotocol IM client, Digsby can even help you keep track of your emails as well all in the same little program. This excited me even more and I did not waste anymore time reading and got right into downloading Digsby.

The download went pretty fast and I got it installed on my Dell XPS laptop with Vista on it without any problems. I added a few of my accounts and after just a few minutes I was up and running with Digsby. I was able to chat with my friends on MSN and Yahoo at the same time with ease.

Not only was I able to chat with my friends that are on different network, but Digsby also kept me informed of when I got new emails from my different accounts as well. Digsby also keeps you in touch with your online social network as well; you can get updates for your MySpace, Twitter, and other social networks as well. It will let you know when you have new friend requests, group invites, and other important updates as well.

Now of course you will not get all the features you get from the full Yahoo Messenger or MSN messenger programs, but if you want all your IM accounts in one nice little program, Digsby is a good choice.
