Spotlight: IDrive.com - Online Backup
Are your files backed up?
Have you ever concerned about losing important computer files because your computer crashed and burned? Those pictures that you just can’t replace if you ever lost them or maybe your scanned tax documents that you need to hang on to. Being the Geek that I am, I make semi-regular backups of all my family photos to DVD’s just in case my computer does take a dive. I should do it more often, but hey, I’m busy with life.
I keep some files that I use often on a nice little memory stick that I usually keep on me. I do forget it sometimes and it is usually when I really need it. So I started to look for another option for me to backup important documents and have access to them anywhere I go.

Keeping in mind that I like free stuff, I found an online backup solution that sounded like it would do exactly what I need. IDrive.com offers 2 GB of online data backup for free. That 2 GB of data would be perfect for backing some of my important files.
I found some other companies out there that did the same type of service, but the ones I saw did not allow you to restore your files, only back them up for you until you upgrade to a paid account. But IDrive lets you do it all, backup, restore, scheduled backups, and you can even set IDrive to do continuous backups.
I downloaded and installed the small IDrive client to my computer and now I have a few small folders that I have being automatically backed up by IDrive. I did a quick test to restore a single file and it worked just great.
This could also be a good option for some companies to ensure their company data is backed up off site at a secure location.
